God's Continued Protection

On Wednesday, October 24, 2012 we received a phone call telling us that Josh had been involved in an accident on his way back to Amarillo from school in Dumas. We were told that he had rolled his car and was injured, but was awake. We jumped in the car and headed for the accident location and called the ER in Dumas to see if we could get a status. A few minutes be for arriving in Dumas, we were told that he had been airlifted to  the trauma center in Amarillo.

As we drove through Dumas and eventually past the accident scene, the ER in Amarillo would only tell us that they did not have any evaluations completed, but that he was talking. As we drove by the accident scene, we saw his car being loaded onto the wrecker and I could tell (after 15 years of investigating accidents) that he could be seriously injured.

After another 40 minutes of driving we arrived at the hospital to find him lying on a gurney, with blood covering his hands and shoulder. He had just returned from x-ray and CT scans and were told that it did not appear that he had broken any bones. He had some cuts and bruises and a bruised lung. The ER doctor kept him over night for observation and took another x-ray in the morning to make sure his lungs were okay.

On the drive home the next afternoon, we stopped by the tow yard to get his personal things out of his car and take a few pictures. As you can see from the picture, he rolled his vehicle at least twice and is fortunate to be alive let alone slightly injured. He told us that after the accident, he was upside down being held in his seat by his seat belt.

We continue to be amazed by God's faithfulness in protecting our son. He definitely has some challenges ahead of him as he used this vehicle to drive back and forth to Dumas for school twice a week (40 miles each way) and he did not have collision coverage on his vehicle. But above all, we all know that God has again spared His life and has something special He wants to use Josh for.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

  1. Thanks for keeping us posted, Brian and Ilene. We're glad for God's hand of protection once again, and we continue to pray for Josh ... he's a treasure, you know! We were reminded of that all throughout our weekend together in August! :) Please give him a hug for us. Love you, Laurie and Doug
